SUMMARY:PPC State Policy Action Call
DESCRIPTION:PA students are back in school\, Labor Day has passed\, and we’re entering a third month without a state budget — in violation of the PA constitution — thanks to inaction and political gamesmanship by Republicans in the state Senate!\n  \nREGISTER HERE!\n\nJoin us on Zoom at 1PM this Thursday for our monthly State Policy Action meeting\, to learn about the damage being done to our state\, as well as opportunities to join with other Pennsylvanians to fight back against GOP bullying.\n\nThis is no longer an inconvenience\, but an escalating crisis\, as school districts\, pre-K programs\, public transit agencies\, and counties are struggling to operate after more than TWO MONTHS without state funding. So far\, the Senate Republican impasse has halted $1.75 BILLION in payments to the Commonwealth’s public schools\, and the past-due amount continues to rise.\n\nOur featured guests will be Shirlee Howe\, the manager of field operations for Children First\, and Gillian Kratzer\, deputy director of Better PA — key leaders in advocacy efforts across the state.\n\nRegister today and receive a login and calendar reminder for this not-to-be-missed update and action meeting. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday afternoon!

SUMMARY:"Death & Taxes" Showing\, Panel Discussion\, and Director Q & A – Lancaster
DESCRIPTION:RSVP HERE\nJoin us for a screening of the new film “Death & Taxes!” This event includes a Q&A with director Justin Schein and a conversation about how budgets and taxes impact our society. We are very excited to bring this film to the Lancaster region and hope you will join us for this showing and the panel discussion to follow.\nYou can register and RSVP here\, and use the included link to purchase your tickets.\nDEATH & TAXES is a feature documentary about wealth\, inequality and the American Dream\, viewed through the lens of the estate tax and the very personal story of a father and son at odds over what kind of inheritance we want to leave our kids and our country.\nHarvey Schein lived a rags-to-riches story that embodies the American Dream as a renowned and successful record company CEO\, known for his brilliance—and his combativeness. Over time he also became obsessed with how to pass on his wealth to his heirs while avoiding taxes. Director Justin Schein turns the camera on his father as a case study in America’s long and problematic history of tax benefits for the wealthy. This timely film deftly interweaves complex family dynamics with American economic policy\, illustrating how the rich stay rich and what it costs our country to keep them that way.\nAs America is in the midst of a bitter fight over the budget and taxes\, we feel “Death & Taxes” is a unique and human way to create a dialogue about wealth inequality and taxation in a healthy democracy.\nDirector: Justin Schein    Run Time: 86 min. Release Year: 2024\n View the trailer: https://vimeo.com/1040511192.

SUMMARY:Vigil for Healthcare: Shut Down Greed\, Not Our Families!
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFamilies across America are struggling to keep up with rising costs of groceries\, housing\, and utilities. Now\, Trump and Republicans in Congress have made it worse—slashing over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act this summer\, sending premiums soaring and threatening coverage for millions. \nThe results are devastating:\n\nUp to 150\,000 residents could lose health coverage next year if Congress fails to extend the tax credits that keep insurance affordable.\nPennie executive director Devon Trolley warns that without these credits\, “costs will rise sharply\, forcing nearly half a million people to choose between their health and their financial security.”\nPremiums for Pennie enrollees would jump about 82% on average. For example\, a family of two paying $178 a month could see their bill climb to $326.\nHospitals and clinics—especially in rural areas—risk closure as more patients are priced out of care.\n\nAnd now\, instead of fixing the damage\, Republicans have chosen to shut down the federal government. Speaker Mike Johnson and Congressman Bresnahan are at the center of this crisis. Bresnahan may claim he supports relief\, but his bill is nothing more than a delay—a Band-Aid over a bullet wound—meant to hide the consequences. \nJoin us for a healthcare vigil to send a clear message:\n✅ Families deserve affordable\, quality healthcare. \n❌ We reject cuts that hike premiums to fund billionaire tax breaks. \n❌ We reject a Republican shutdown that puts essential services and our healthcare at risk. \nTogether\, we’ll hold Speaker Johnson and Congressman Bresnahan accountable for putting politics and billionaires ahead of our health and our lives. \nRSVP HERE!\n\nWhat to bring:\n\nSigns supporting affordable healthcare\nELECTRIC candles (No fire)\nFamily and friends\n\n\nBrought to you by:\nPennsylvanians Together\, Pennsylvania Policy Center\, Action Together NEPA\, For our Future PA\, SEIU Healthcare PA\, and Affordable Pennsylvania

SUMMARY:We Will Not Be Erased: Chalk the Rainbow for National Coming Out Day 2025!
DESCRIPTION:Across the country\, rainbow crosswalks — symbols of LGBTQ+ pride and visibility — have been disappearing. But this National Coming Out Day (Saturday\, October 11\, 2025)\, join Queer NEPA\, Pennsylvanians Together\, and local partners as we turn the streets into a canvas of joy\, color\, and community. \nWe will not be erased — we will shine brighter. \nHere’s how it works: \n– If your community already has a rainbow crosswalk\, that’s a great place for a rally\, press event\, or celebration. \n– If not\, we’ll make one — by chalking a rainbow crosswalk together and filling it with life\, laughter\, and love. \nThis is a family-friendly\, joy-filled action of unity. Bring chalk\, bring music\, bring food\, bring friends — and most of all\, bring your pride. Don’t forget to share photos and videos with #WeWillNotBeErased and #ChalkTheRainbow so we can celebrate together across the country. \nTogether\, we’ll dance\, laugh\, and step into pride — proving that our colors can never be erased.

DESCRIPTION:Time: 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.\nLocation:\n\nLackawanna County Courthouse Square\, 200 N. Washington Ave.\, Scranton\, PA 18503\nRSVP HERE!\nAbout this event:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn America\, we don’t put up with would-be kings. \nOur peaceful movement is only getting bigger and stronger. “NO KINGS” is more than just a slogan—it’s the foundation our nation was built upon. Born in the streets\, carried by millions in chants and on posters\, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares\, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together. \nThe president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America\, we don’t have kings\, and we won’t back down against chaos\, corruption\, and cruelty. SUMMARY:"Pennsylvanians Together: For Our Common Wealth" Campaign Kickoff
DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nCONTACT: Kirstin Snow\, Communications Director\, snow@pennpolicy.org \n MEDIA ADVISORY: Tuesday\, 1/27\, 12:00 PM – NEW CAMPAIGN  LAUNCH – FOR OUR COMMON WEALTH\nHarrisburg\, PA— On Tuesday\, January 27\, at 12:00 PM\, the Pennsylvania Policy Center (PPC) will hold a virtual press conference to launch Pennsylvanians Together: For Our Common Wealth\, a new statewide campaign calling on elected officials to commit to demanding a Pennsylvania budget that works for everyday people—not just the ultra-wealthy and big corporations. \nAs the Commonwealth faces a major budget shortfall\, this campaign is demanding real solutions.  Speakers will highlight the urgent need to raise new revenue by requiring the wealthiest individuals and profitable corporations to pay their fair share\, rather than forcing harmful cuts to schools\, health care\, transit\, and other essential services. \nThe event will be lead by PPC’s new Executive Director and Campaign Chair\, Felicity A. Williams\, alongside community leaders\, advocates\, and impacted Pennsylvanians from across the state.  Together\, they will underscore a simple truth: real livability comes from investing in what keeps communities stable and strong. \nThe campaign calls on lawmakers to publicly commit to revenue solutions that protect basic needs like housing\, education\, public infrastructure\, and environmental protections—so Pennsylvanians can thrive\, not just survive. \nEVENT DETAILS \nWHAT: Campaign Kick Off Press Conference- Pennsylvanians Together: For Our Common Wealth \nWHEN: Tuesday\, January 27 2026\, at 12:00 PM EST \nWHERE: ON ZOOM (register here) \nWHO: \nFelicity A. Williams\, Executive Director\, Pennsylvania Policy Center \nCharlotte Bruce\, Children’s HealthWatch \nRep. Nikki Rivera\, PA HD96 \nConnor Descheemaker\, Transit For All PA \nDwayne Heisler\, Campaign Director\, Pennsylvanians Together \nAdditional speakers to be announced. \nCutting education\, healthcare\, transit\, and safety-net programs doesn’t fix our budget—it makes everyday life harder for workers\, seniors\, and families trying to get ahead. Meanwhile\, the richest 1% in Pennsylvania pay taxes at half the rate of everyone else. Asking those who can most afford it to pay their fair share would allow the Commonwealth to invest in communities where everyone has a real chance to thrive. \nPennsylvanians deserve to thrive\, not just survive. It’s time to come together\, for our common wealth. \n### \n  \n  \n
