  • PPC State Policy Action Call

PA students are back in school, Labor Day has passed, and we're entering a third month without a state budget — in violation of the PA constitution — thanks to inaction and political gamesmanship by Republicans in the state Senate!   REGISTER HERE Join us on Zoom at 1PM this Thursday for our monthly State Policy Action meeting, to learn about the damage being done to our state, as well as opportunities to join with other Pennsylvanians to fight back against GOP bullying. This is no longer an inconvenience, but an escalating crisis, as school districts, pre-K programs, public transit agencies, and counties are struggling to operate after more than TWO MONTHS without state funding. So far, the Senate Republican impasse has halted $1.75 BILLION in payments to the Commonwealth's public schools, and the past-due amount continues to rise. Our featured guests will be Shirlee Howe, the manager of field operations for Children First, and Gillian Kratzer, deputy director of Better PA — key leaders in advocacy efforts across the state. Register today and receive a login and calendar reminder for this not-to-be-missed update and action meeting. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday afternoon!

  • “Death & Taxes” Showing, Panel Discussion, and Director Q & A – Lancaster

Zoetropolis Cinema 112 N. Water St., Lancaster, PA

RSVP HERE Join us for a screening of the new film "Death & Taxes!" This event includes a Q&A with director Justin Schein and a conversation about how budgets and taxes impact our society. We are very excited to bring this film to the Lancaster region and hope you will join us for this showing and the panel discussion to follow. You can register and RSVP here, and use the included link to purchase your tickets. DEATH & TAXES is a feature documentary about wealth, inequality and the American Dream, viewed through the lens of the estate tax and the very personal story of a father and son at odds over what kind of inheritance we want to leave our kids and our country. Harvey Schein lived a rags-to-riches story that embodies the American Dream as a renowned and successful record company CEO, known for his brilliance—and his combativeness. Over time he also became obsessed with how to pass on his wealth to his heirs while avoiding taxes. Director Justin Schein turns the camera on his father as a case study in America’s long and problematic history of tax benefits for the wealthy. This timely film deftly interweaves complex family dynamics […]

  • Vigil for Healthcare: Shut Down Greed, Not Our Families!

Scranton City Hall 340 N. Washington Ave., Scranton, Pennsylvania

About this event Families across America are struggling to keep up with rising costs of groceries, housing, and utilities. Now, Trump and Republicans in Congress have made it worse—slashing over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act this summer, sending premiums soaring and threatening coverage for millions. The results are devastating: Up to 150,000 residents could lose health coverage next year if Congress fails to extend the tax credits that keep insurance affordable. Pennie executive director Devon Trolley warns that without these credits, “costs will rise sharply, forcing nearly half a million people to choose between their health and their financial security.” Premiums for Pennie enrollees would jump about 82% on average. For example, a family of two paying $178 a month could see their bill climb to $326. Hospitals and clinics—especially in rural areas—risk closure as more patients are priced out of care. And now, instead of fixing the damage, Republicans have chosen to shut down the federal government. Speaker Mike Johnson and Congressman Bresnahan are at the center of this crisis. Bresnahan may claim he supports relief, but his bill is nothing more than a delay—a Band-Aid over a bullet wound—meant to hide the consequences. Join […]

  • We Will Not Be Erased: Chalk the Rainbow for National Coming Out Day 2025!

Scranton City Hall 340 N. Washington Ave., Scranton, Pennsylvania

Across the country, rainbow crosswalks — symbols of LGBTQ+ pride and visibility — have been disappearing. But this National Coming Out Day (Saturday, October 11, 2025), join Queer NEPA, Pennsylvanians Together, and local partners as we turn the streets into a canvas of joy, color, and community. We will not be erased — we will shine brighter. Here’s how it works: – If your community already has a rainbow crosswalk, that's a great place for a rally, press event, or celebration. – If not, we’ll make one — by chalking a rainbow crosswalk together and filling it with life, laughter, and love. This is a family-friendly, joy-filled action of unity. Bring chalk, bring music, bring food, bring friends — and most of all, bring your pride. Don’t forget to share photos and videos with #WeWillNotBeErased and #ChalkTheRainbow so we can celebrate together across the country. Together, we’ll dance, laugh, and step into pride — proving that our colors can never be erased.
